Baited the Lure of the fishing life
If you have a passion for recreational fishing like I do, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. It features over twenty-four captivating short stories from my lifelong personal fishing adventures, dating back to when I was just four years old. Though there are many others, these true stories, each offer a unique perspective on fishing, exploring not only the thrill of the catch but also the many other aspects that make the experience so special. From the excitement of preparing for a fishing trip to unforgettable journeys to remote locations like northern Saskatchewan or Lake Erie, this book captures the essence of what makes fishing such a cherished pastime. Whether you're a seasoned angler or simply appreciate a good outdoor adventure, these stories will resonate with you. If you want to know the fishing brain of the author, read on…………..
I love fishing. There is nothing I’d rather be doing. If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be a fishing guide. The pull of the water, the rhythm of casting, the anticipation of a strike, the allure of finding where the fish are “hitting” on a lake, the tugging fish on the line--it’s a lifelong passion that has shaped who I am. Fishing isn’t just a hobby; it’s a way of life, a deep connection to nature, and a never-ending pursuit of both tranquility and excitement.
For 50 years, since the age of four, I have fished everywhere I could—from a small homemade pond in the suburbs of Chicago to the remote northern forests of Saskatchewan, the pristine lakes of northern Wisconsin, the west shore of Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and the vast oceans of the Pacific off Mexico and the Caribbean Sea near the Bahamas. No matter where I cast a line, the thrill remains the same. I love the chase, the unpredictability of what might be lurking below, and the sheer joy of being on the water.
More than just the catch, I cherish the camaraderie—sharing these moments with my sons, my dad, my brother, my daughter, my wife, or lifelong friends. Fishing is in my blood, my breath, my soul. I have gulped it my entire life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This book tells twenty personal, short stories of how I have been “baited” for good.

Common Expressions of the 1960_s, 70_s, and 80_s. Over 200 Momisms and Dadisms As told by a Boomer
Mom and Dad left some indelible imprints on our young brains. As me and my siblings were growing up, it was impossible not to notice the way Mom and Dad spoke, with phrases and expressions that seemed to echo in our daily lives. Their words became woven into the fabric of our own speech, shaping how we communicate today. It wasn't just what they said, but how they said it—those familiar sayings, words, jokes, and even stern reminders that always seemed to carry a deeper meaning. These aphorisms, idioms, and euphemisms were not unique to just my mother and father. They were used by other boomer parents, and many of them were likely learned from their parents a few generations back as well.
Whether it was "It’s not the end of the world," when something went wrong, or "It’ll all pan out," when we faced the consequences of our actions, those verbal expressions were more than just words—they were life lessons in a few carefully chosen phrases. As we grew older, we realized many of these expressions may have been passed down from their parents (like Mum, our grandmother), perhaps not as explicitly as they might have told us, but certainly through the repetition of these sayings. The cadence of their voices, the slight shifts in tone when they uttered a particularly familiar phrase, all became part of our own vocabulary.
Whether you grew up hearing “It takes a village” or “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down,” the deeper truth is that language is a living legacy. It evolves, generation by generation, sometimes fading into obscurity—like “Heavens to Murgatroyd”—and sometimes enduring as evergreen reminders of life’s little lessons.
This book has been a tribute to that legacy. It’s a celebration of the words that made us smile, the wisdom that shaped us, and the family that we continue to cherish. From Chicago Cubs games to family dinners and Sunday drives, every phrase we repeat is like a breadcrumb trail back to where we came from. Some stuck, many didn’t—even though they are remembered dearly.
So, as you flip through these pages—or better yet, as you share your own family’s sayings with the next generation—remember: it’s not just about the words themselves, but the stories they tell, the people they remind us of, and the love they carry. In the end, expressions are more than just clever turns of phrase. They’re the echoes of our families’ voices—passed down, cherished, and, I hope, never forgotten.

The Lake Effect The Joy of Lake Living
For the millions of lake enthusiasts out there as well as future lake enthusiasts, I know you will relish this book. While the primary focus will be the beautiful Lake Geneva, nestled in the rolling hills and fertile farmland of southeastern Wisconsin, The Lake Effect is about the beauty and allure of lake living and all it has to offer. I will take you through the rich history of Lake Geneva and the treasure trove of beautiful memories it holds for me and my family who lived there for 26 years, and my hope is that it will trigger some beautiful memories of your own lake experience as well as some which may well be on your horizon. You will enjoy reading this book whether you are curious about lakes or have already feasted on lake living. If you want to know more about how spending time around lakes provides an escape from the hustle and bustle and busyness of life, or a enchanting destination during a slow or ho-hum season of your life, read on! Our planet is brimming with inland lakes that dot the landscape everywhere. There are an estimated 117 million of them spread throughout the seven continents – from pond-size to gigantic. For example, Alaska has about three million unnamed lakes, many considered too small to name, while the beautiful and mammoth Lake Baikal in Russia contains over one-fifth of the earth’s fresh water supply! With the exception of Maryland, all 50 states are populated with at least one natural lake. Minnesota (with a license plate that claims “10,000 lakes”) has the second highest total with about 15,291 natural lakes, most of them named, and Wisconsin has the third-highest number of lakes with 15,074, many of which may be just "ponds." Michigan also has an abundance of lakes, totaling around 11,000. There are so many beautiful lakes in the Midwest and beyond! But whether your favorite is Higgins Lake in Michigan, Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, Lake Ontario or one of the other five Great Lakes, the famed Lake Tahoe straddling Nevada and California, Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire, the Finger Lakes in upstate New York, or Lake Mead in Arizona/Nevada, lakes carry a beauty and charm that engenders positive feelings and memories.

From St. Andrews to Royal Troon A Week of Golfing Glory A GUIDE TO PLAYING SEVEN CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSES IN SCOTLAND
Every golfer dreams of Scotland. Not just because it's the birthplace of the game, but because it represents something deeper—tradition, authenticity, and a connection to the essence of golf. For eight of us, that dream became reality in a warm and beautiful mid-August. The anticipation? Unmatched. The excitement? Palpable. And the stories? Well, they started before a single tee was placed in the ground.
We came to Scotland with oversized bags and oversized dreams. We left as something else—maybe not pros, but certainly pilgrims. In the span of one unforgettable August week, we walked the windswept fairways of golf’s holy land: Turnberry, Prestwick, Royal Troon, Carnoustie, Gullane, North Berwick, Old St. Andrews, and Kingsbarns. Each course had its own personality—some elegant, some brutal, some downright mischievous (looking at you, Carnoustie). And all of them, without exception, whispered back to us with the spirit of the game.
It wasn’t just about the golf. It was the total immersion. For one week, we unplugged—no phones, no laptops, no emails. The only messages we received were from caddies in thick accents and the occasional seagull dive-bombing us on the course. We weren't checking calendars; we were checking wind direction. Our office was the links, our meetings happened on the tee box, and our only notifications were birdies—both the kind you make and the kind that steal your chips.

The Two Year Spark how Hobbies keep you brain young
Why you should read this book
A Personal Note from Dr. Robert M. Gullberg
Why New Hobbies Matter Now More Than Ever after age 40:
If you’re reading this, you’re likely wondering whether trying something new at your stage in life is worth it. Maybe you raised a family of kids and “they were your hobby for years”. Maybe you had a long career and worked hard and never thought about hobbies.
Let me be direct: Yes, it absolutely is worth it. As your physician and someone who’s seen many thousands of patients across decades, I’ve noticed a powerful pattern—those who regularly explore new hobbies age better, think sharper, and feel more alive.
Too many people, especially after age 50, drift into routines after retirement that never change. Routines provide stability, yes—but stagnation steals vitality. The brain needs novelty and challenge to stay young. Without it, mental decline creeps in faster than most realize. I’ve had patients tell me, “I’m too old,” “I don’t have time,” or “I’ve never been creative.” My response? No more excuses. Trudging across the country to see your new grandchildren doesn’t cut it as a new hobby! You can learn something new. You must.
This book isn’t just information—it’s an invitation. Every two years, you should adopt a new hobby--again. Not to pass the time, but to stretch your mind, uplift your mood, spark social connection, and keep your brain from settling into neutral. Whether it’s painting, hiking, cooking, woodworking, or learning the piano, I challenge you to pick something—and start.
Your mind, your health, and your joy depend on it. Let’s get at it.

Common Expressions of the 1960_s, 70_s, & 80_s Volume 2 Written by a Boomer
Volume I proved quite popular, especially among Baby Boomers. As fate would have it, after its publication, my siblings and I continued reminiscing and uncovered another three hundred colorful phrases from the past that deserved to be remembered.
This book is Volume II of Momisms and Dadisms, an expansion of an additional 315 new entries to the 212 gathered in the first edition. Collectively, they capture the humor, wisdom, and everyday truths of an entire generation, one phrase at a time. I believe every Boomer will treasure these expressions, handed down to us during our formative years by our parents and others from that remarkable era.
Language has always been more than the literal arrangement of words. It is an art form, a vessel of meaning that can comfort, provoke, disguise, or inspire. Among the countless ways expressions work, three forms—aphorism, euphemism, and idiom—stand out because of their persistence across cultures and generations. My parents, like many others, used all three in their everyday speech. Each serves a distinct purpose, but together they reveal how creative expression shapes human conversation.

Hope for the Bogey Golfer A SYSTEM to Improve your Game
The strategic plan of action for golf called S.Y.S.T.E.M. will help your driving, long irons, short irons, short game, putting, and the mental game. You see, golf is really five games in one. That’s what makes it so tough. Most bogey golfers never put all five pieces of the puzzle together during their round. On one day, your putting is seemingly consistent, but your bunker play “stinks.” Your iron play is just “O.K.”, but your driving was “right down the middle.” The next week, you sliced two of your drives OB, but your iron play and short game “saved you.” Candidly, you need to have a strategy for each part. A system to help you improve, and then you will have more fun playing this game. Guaranteed.S.Y.S.T.E.M. will remove some of the frustration out of your game. It will help you make golf a “fun walk” rather than a “good walk spoiled,” as novelist Harvey Wilson quipped in 1905. You’ll have fun improving if you use the eight S.Y.S.T.E.M. keys that are detailed in this book. Having fun while you’re playing comes from scoring better. If only one or two wonderful shots during a round bring the weekend golfer back for more golf the following week, you will be ecstatic after applying S.Y.S.T.E.M. to your game. S.Y.S.T.E.M. will help you with your all-around game and shave off some shots from your scorecard.

Successful Trading in the Stock Market made Simple
There are several goals of this book. After you read it thoroughly, more than once, you will start to see how you can trade the stock market without emotion. You don’t have to be a professional to make a nice profit from the market. YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IF YOU LISTEN to the principles about key INDICATORS presented in this book.
We will review the Russell, Nasdaq, DOW, and the S&P markets. Commodities will be discussed also. This book IS NOT about OPTION trading, futures, or teaching candlestick patterns.
To put it simply, I will:
Give historical review of stock market returns over the years……certainly the last 20 years.
Look at monthly, weekly, daily, and even shorter time frame charts, and discuss percentage returns of each. With experience, you can “Time the Market” in the big picture…..no matter what they say. You can find trends.
Show you the INDICATOR signals for buying LONG and going SHORT in each Market, and why a buy and hold mentality doesn’t always work (it did in the 1990s).
Give advice on what I like to trade.
Show you that you don’t have to rely on another person (usually a broker, or financial advisor) to “take care of” your retirement account.
You will get trading tips on what are good stocks to buy.
My methods of Market Timing have already proven themselves over the years- time and time again. It has been a labor of enjoyment to figure it out.
What started as a hobby has become a journey.
I’m far from a professional, but I can tell you that I’ve put many hours into this hobby.
This book will help you tremendously to becoming a successful trader!
